OUR STORY
Inspirational Music-Making For Over A Century
The Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra was formed in 1918 and is the longest continually active orchestra in the state of Wisconsin!
Over more than a century, extraordinary musical experiences have evolved into a legacy of old and new traditions.
Thank you to PBS for featuring the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra as we continue to grow and evolve under the leadership of our conductor, Ernesto Estigarribia.
The Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra is led by Music Director Ernesto Estigarribia Mussi.
Each orchestra season includes three classical concerts, a yearly holiday concert, and an annual children’s concert.
Before each concert, Mr. Estrigarribia gives a pre-concert talk that starts at 6:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to learn about the music and composers presented during the performance.
During each performance, the musicians’ artistry and passion engage the senses and create new memories. The varied repertoire provides a unique musical experience for the audience and performers.
As a community-based, professional orchestra, most of our musicians call the lakeshore community home, but we also have musicians from all over Wisconsin.
All performances are held at the prestigious Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Sheboygan.

In the early 1980s, the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra partnered with the Sheboygan Area School District to form the Sheboygan Area Youth Symphony, later renamed to the Sheboygan Symphony Youth Orchestra.
The youth symphony has a rich history of talented musicians, dedicated conductors, and tireless volunteers. Many current and former members have performed with the Sheboygan Symphony and other orchestras nationwide.

In 1994, Janet L. Herrick founded the Sheboygan Symphony Chorus. The chorus comprises 80 voices and performs several concerts yearly with the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra.

Carnegie Hall’s Link Up
The Sheboygan Symphony and Sheboygan Area School District sponsor give an annual Children’s Concert at no charge to the students. Supported and created by the Carnegie Hall Foundation, the SSO presents Carnegie Hall’s Link Up program, introducing orchestral music to public, parochial, and home-schooled fourth-grade students throughout Sheboygan County.
Students attend a daytime concert in the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts, where they are introduced to the various instruments of the orchestra, musical terms and concepts, and composers and their musical works while singing and playing recorders along with the orchestra.
By providing an authentic concert experience, the students’ world is opened to the beauty of live performances.
Over the past 28 years, over 43,000 students have attended the Children’s Concerts. For more information, contact the Sheboygan Symphony Office at (920) 452-1985.
The Sheboygan Symphony Children’s Concerts are sponsored by Sargento.

Described as a “striking interpreter” who gives a “committed and heartfelt performance” by
Musical America and The New York Times, pianist Fanya Lin has entranced audiences
worldwide with her charismatic and fiery performances. She will perform Rachmaninoff’s
Concerto No. 3, one of the most difficult works in all of the piano repertory. To describe the end
of this piece as jaw-dropping would be an understatement!
Opening this program is Ingrid Stolzel’s City Beautiful, a work of exquisite shimmering textures,
not unlike living on the shore of Lake Michigan, experiencing the shifting colors and patterns of
light reflecting off the water each day.
Concluding this concert – and the season – is Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2. It is a
magnificent work in all respects, inhabiting the complexity and contradictory aspects of human
emotion, but resolving in triumph and glory with a brass chorale like no other.
