In the season opening concert, Strauss’s Also Sprach Zarathustra will bring patrons back to the Gala concert that opened the Weill Center in 2001. Shostakovich’s Symphony #5 will honor the composer’s 100th birthday and the SSO’s 5th anniversary at the Weill Center. Highlights of this concert include Strauss’s Also Sprach Zarathustra, Mozart’s Horn Concerto and Shostakovich’s Symphony #5 in D
minor.

Over the centuries, the fibers of music and dance have been interwoven. Music’s great rhythms have inspired thrilling interpretations and dramatic dance variations have motivated composers to produce great musical scores. Tyzen Hsiao, a Taiwanese composer dedicated to the revival of Taiwanese folk music, combines vernacular musical elements of Taiwan with Western compositional techniques. Ravel’s Rhapsody Espagnol paints a portrait of Spain while Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony #4 was influenced by the landscapes of Italy’s countryside. Enjoy Tyzen’-Hsiao’s Cello Concerto in C. Ravel’s Rhapsody Espag- nol and Mendelssohn’s Symphony’ #4 in A Major (Italian).

The power, strength, and beauty of the human voice are showcased in this commanding concert. The Symphony Chorus provides a moving interpretation of Faure’s Requiem, ending with the powerful Coronation Scene from Boris Godunov.

Excellent seating for the Sheboygan Symphony’s 2006-07 season is still available. Full Concert Series tickets range in price from $80 to $150. The Mini Series which includes three of the five regular season concerts range in price from $50 to $85. Call the Sheboygan Symphony Office at 452-1985.
Ticket prices for Christmas Treasures range from $15 to $30, students at $15, and will be available beginning September 18 by contacting the Symphony Office.
The Sheboygan Symphony’s 2007 subscription concerts and “Christmas Treasures” concert will be performed at the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.
