Youth Symphony to hold Competition

The Sheboygan Area Youth Symphony (SAYS) is providing an opportunity for members to compete in order to perform with a more advanced orchestra. The public is invited to attend the competition and experience the caliber of our young musicians as they expand their skills.  Please know that your presence at this event is appreciated as it provides support for our students’ efforts.

The winner of the Sinfonia (Middle School and advanced Elementary students) competition will perform with the Sheboygan Area Youth Symphony Concert Orchestra at their April Concert.  The Concert Orchestra (Middle and High School students) competition winner will play with the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra (SSO) at the March Children’s concert.

The competition will be held Saturday, January 11th from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm at First United Lutheran Church.

The Youth Symphony is a full orchestra made up of 105 students from 12 different Sheboygan county communities.  They perform 3 public concerts each season as well as educational concert tours and long distance trips. The Orchestra is proudly co-sponsored by the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra and the Sheboygan Area School District.

The SAYS Sinfonia is directed by Susan Stauber. Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings, running from September through April. Sinfonia rehearses from 4:30 to 6 p.m.  The SAYS Concert Orchestra is directed by Debbie Williamson who co-founded the orchestra in 1982.  Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings, from September through April. The Concert Orchestra Strings begin rehearsal at 6:30 p.m., with other instruments joining at 7 p.m. Rehearsals last until 9 p.m.
