The Sheboygan Area Youth Symphony Concert Orchestra and Sinfonia will hold auditions for the upcoming 2014-15 season.
Auditions will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Farnsworth Middle School, 1017 Union Ave.
All area elementary, middle school, high school and home-schooled students are invited to audition. Participation in school instrumental ensembles is required unless the appropriate ensemble is not in the curriculum.
The concert orchestra audition requires a solo of Class A or B difficulty. String solos should also include shifting to the upper positions. Concert orchestra is currently looking to fill openings for clarinets, horns and strings. All other sections are currently full for the coming season.
Students auditioning for Sinfonia should prepare a solo of Class C or B difficulty. Sinfonia, formerly a strings-only group, will add woodwinds, brass and percussion to provide an intermediate-level full orchestra experience for students beginning with the upcoming season. Sinfonia currently has openings for oboes, clarinets, bassoons, trombones, tuba, violin, viola, cello and bass.
No appointment is necessary, nor is an accompanist. Warm-up facilities will be available at the audition site. Please enter the east door off of the parking lot on 10th Street.
The Sinfonia is directed by Susan Zeuske. Rehearsals are held Monday evenings, September through April. Sinfonia strings rehearse from 4:30 to 6 p.m., and winds and percussion from 5 to 6 p.m.
The concert orchestra is directed by Debbie Williamson. It rehearses from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays, September through April, and strings from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The youth symphonies perform three concerts each season.
