The Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will present a program featuring a dozen works of popular holiday music. Most pieces are shorter in length than typical traditional symphonic pieces.
Kevin McMahon, Music Director & Conductor, stated, “The concert will be festive, joyous with holiday spirit, moving, tender, sometimes melancholy, soaring, playful, humorous, and spiritual. We invite our audience to enjoy the concert which will be filled with moments to smile and receive the gifts of the orchestra and choir with happiness.”
Eight of the twelve works are favorites from past concerts of “Christmas Treasures” and Messiah. These favorites are highlighted in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Symphony and 25th Anniversary of the Chorus. The other four works are typical “Christmas Treasures” concert fare.
Guest baritone Warren Fremling will be presenting In Terra Pax. An active choral director and voice teacher, Fremling holds a Masters of Music from Northwestern and a Doctorate from the American Conservatory of Music. In addition to the Chicago Opera Theater, other appearances include the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Florentine Opera, and the Milwaukee Symphony.
McMahon added, “The music that is new to our audience and orchestra is family-friendly for the young and young at heart. These numbers include musical suites from the motion pictures, Elf and Polar Express, as well as two different versions of Sleigh Ride, including one by the composer Delius. For fans of traditional orchestra and choral music, Finzi’s In Terra Pax is presented with lyrics in English. If you have never attended one of our concerts, this is a very good program to begin your Symphony Experience.”
