Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra to hold Season Finale Concert

The fifth, and final concert of the 96th season of the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra will include world renowned opera singers, special appearances by the Lakeshore Youth Chorale and Sheboygan Symphony Chorus, as well as a narration by William Te Winkle. “Portrait of Americana” will take place 7:30 p.m. May 9 at the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts, 826 N. Eighth St, Sheboygan.

The quality and variety of musical prowess of the show is sure to entertain both the novice theater-goer and the master musician.

Redding’s gleaming resume takes him to various opera and performance troupes throughout the world including to the Wexford Festival in Ireland, where he was honored with the Johnstown Castle Bursary award. He and Mitchell will be joined by the Sheboygan Symphony Chorus to sing the concert version of Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess,” a piece Redding knows well from his role as Porgy with several opera companies.

LaquitaMitchell 2Mitchell, who has portrayed Bess on several occasions, consistently earns acclaim in eminent opera companies throughout North America and Europe, performing with such groups as Los Angeles Opera, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, New York City Opera, Washington National Opera, Opéra Comique in Paris, among many others.

Te Winkle will narrate Copland, A Lincoln Portrait. He is a life-long resident of Sheboygan County, and has been serving Hope Church in Sheboygan as its pastor since 2009, following his ordination as a Minister of Word and Sacrament. Te Winkle appeared on stage in many local theatre performances, of which his favorites have been as Don Quixote in “Man of La Mancha” and John Adams in “1776.”

Adding to the evening’s performance will be a joint performance of David Diamond’s “This Sacred Ground” by the Lakeshore Youth Chorale and Sheboygan Symphony Chorus performing with the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra.
