Sheboygan Symphony Entertains with People's Choice Concert

The votes are in for one of the most anticipated outcomes in recent memory.

The U.S. Presidential election? Yeah, that too.

The audience has spoken, and the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra will reveal the results of its first People’s Choice Concert at the Weill Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, November 12, at 7:30 p.m.

Throughout last season, audience members were invited to vote for their favorite pieces to create the program for this concert.  The People’s Choice Concert was originally proposed by Music Director and Conductor Kevin McMahon.

Kevin Brochure1“Given the fact that 2016 is an election year, we timed our People’s Choice concert to occur as close to the general election as possible,” McMahon said. “After the votes were collected, the top favorite musical choices were crafted into a concert program including five composers.”   So, who are the winners? The concert program will be kept under wraps until the night of the performance.

“We are trying to keep the program a surprise until concert day” McMahon stresses.   “The content will be discussed during the pre-concert Interludes and publicized when the programs are passed out, then you will see how your voting turned out.”

McMahon did share a few hints. “There are two works by quite famous English composers, and the rest of the program is American music,” he said.  The concert will feature music from several movies, some written for a movie, other music that was appropriated for movies, as well as a work with a narrator that honors one of our historical, native Wisconsinites, Garth Neustadter.
