Jeremiah Eis, Director, Youth Symphony Concert Orchestra
Jeremiah Eis is in his first year as Director of the Sheboygan Area Youth Symphony Concert Orchestra. Eis also holds positions as Conductor of the N.E.W. Wind Symphony, Band Director at Xavier Middle School (Appleton), and Adjunct Instructor at St. Norbert College. An experienced educator, he was formerly an Assistant Professor of Music at Silver Lake College. While at SLC, he formed the Silver Lake Wind Ensemble, leading to the development of the largest instrumental music program in the history of the institution. Additionally, he established a high school band festival, served as Chair of the Music Department, was elected Chair of the Faculty, and received the 2013 Freddy Award for fostering community on campus. Additional teaching experiences include the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Gresham School District, Reedsville High School, the Valders Area School District, and clinics at numerous schools. Eis is also a member of the prestigious Wisconsin Bandmasters’ Association, whose membership is granted by invitation only.
Eis is in-demand as a low brass musician, and has performed with groups such as the Concord Chamber Orchestra, Dorf Kapelle, Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Newtonburg Brass Band, Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra, Peninsula Players Theatre, Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra, Wisconsin Symphonic Winds, and many others. Additionally, he has backed up artists from the Canadian Brass, Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show Band, and numerous professional orchestras. He has been featured as a soloist multiple times throughout his career, recorded compact discs, premiered works, had arrangements published, and received a Citation of Excellence from the National Band Association in 2011 for conducting the Wisconsin Collegiate Honors Band. He has also received a citation from the Wisconsin State Assembly.
Eis received his Master of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he was a winner of the band department’s renowned concerto competition, and his Bachelor of Music degree from St. Norbert College, where he received the Winters Award for his contributions to music in the community. He is also a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc and the United States Army School of Music.
As a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard, Eis serves as a Staff Sergeant, Squad Leader, Assistant Conductor, and Unit Career Counselor with the 132nd Army Band. In the unit, he has performed on concert tours, and provided music for deployment functions, gubernatorial inaugurations, and congressional ceremonies. Additionally, he performed as part of a halftime show for NFL’s Monday Night Football. His military awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal.
